CHINMAYA VIDYALAYA, KOLLAM ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2010-11 Hari om The annual report of the academic year 2010-11 is submitted with humble pranams to Poojya Gurudev. The academic session of this year commenced on 3rd May with classes for class X and XII. Several new comers joined in Chinmaya family and I welcome them whole heartedly. Some new teachers also joined our family. The toppers for the board exam were S R Gururaj(X) and Lakshmi (XII). Gururaj got A1 for all subjects and Lakshmi got 82% of marks. We congratulate them for their success and hardwork. Gurujis Bday was celebrated in the Vidyalaya on 30 june 2010. Staff, students and mission members rendered the Birthday wishes by singing the birthday song composed by Guruji himself. Teacher & Students also chanted Gurusthothram & bhajans which was followed by distribution of Prasad. A person would be able to fulfill his life only if he gets the blessings of his guru, parents and elders. The birthday of Veda Vyasa which is celebrated as Gurupoornima was celebrated on 26 July by conducting a special assembly. The Principal addressed the students on that occasion. The teachers & students chanted Gurusthothram and Gurupadukam sthothram. Traffic rules should be strictly followed. Our young generation should understand these rules and follow it strictly. Traffic Awareness Programme was conducted on 4th August 2010. Prof. Balakrishna Pillai, Corrrespondent, CV Kollam explained the different signals that should be noticed by pedestrians, motor cycles, cyclists etc. Principal, teachers and students were present on that occasion. Chinmaya Samadhi day was observed as sadhana day on 3rd Aug 2010. Swami Sivayogananda, Acharya, Chinmaya Mission. Madurai addressed the students, teachers & mission members in the morning session. Swamini Divyanandaji conducted Gurupaduka pooja in the afternoon session, Teachers, students & mission members took part in it. The system that is followed in KG section has brought about new changes in the academic, physical & mental development in the child. The KG section observed color day on 26th Aug 2010. It was observed as Yellow day. The children and teachers came in yellow attire. They made yellow color flowers & brought yellow color fruits on that day. It really helped them to identify that color very easily. An exhibition was also conducted by the KG section. Creative works and toys and things made out of different waste materials & used materials were exhibited. The children also explained how the creative art was made. It was really a very happy moment to be with them. 5th Aug 2010 was observed as Sanskrit day. The assembly was conducted in Sanskrit. Sreelekshmi & Keerthana Mohan of class VIII chanted Narayaneeyam. Athira Sivan of class VIII gave a speech on the importance of Sanskrit language. Our national pledge & chinmaya pledge were also in Sanskrit. Students displayed charts with pictures of great writers in Sanskrit, and also displayed some articles. The Ramayana month was celebrated by the recitation of Ramayana along with morning prayers. Quiz competition and painting competition were held in the Vidyalaya. The topic for painting was Ahalya moksham and Lanka Dahanam. Independence day celebration was conducted amidst great joy and spirit of freedom. Staffs & students were present on that occasion. Prof. Balakrishna Pillai., Correspondent Chinamaya vidyalaya, Kollam hoisted the national flag& took the salute. School choir sung patriotic songs. House wise cricket match was conducted on that day. Onam celebration was celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm. House wise flower carpet competition was held and Sankara house bagged the first prize., Festival songs were sung by children. Sweets were distributed. The staff had a get together by enjoying the onam feast. Children were thrilled to see their elders as teachers in the school as part of the teachers day. Student teachers got an opportunity to understand the role of teacher and they enjoyed very much. Hindi day was celebrated on 14 Sept 2010. A special assembly was conducted and the principal addressed the students. The vidyalaya song was sung & pictures of great Hindi poets & novelists were exhibited. The students of class XI took the initiative for the Eco club in the Vidyalaya. The club was formed with a committee consisting of the principal, correspondent, Science teachers and class XI students. Students from class VIII, IX, X became the members of the club. The inaugural session of the club was on 15 sept 2010. The meeting was presided over by Prof. T.K S Unnithan, Academic & Administrative coordinator, Chinmaya Vidyalayas, TVm & Kollam. Prof. Balakrishnan Pillai introduced the chief guest. Dr Prakasham, the former prof & HOD , Environmental science, Karyavattom, Kerala university. He addressed the students & teachers and highlighted the different areas where the Eco club can work effectively. A competition was held for designing the Eco club emblem. The emblem designed by Vishnu G Prasad of class X won the first prize. According to Astrology, each star has its bird, animal, tree etc. The Eco club took its first project as ‘Nakshthra Vana ‘. The sapling according to each birth stars were planted on that occasion by the chief guest & others. The social science dept also joined hands with the science dept. The students of our Vidyalaya conducted a cycle rally in connection with the National Cycle day which advocates cycling, walking & using any public transport. It was just a reminder as to how we can make use of public transport at least for one day & reduce traffic on roads. The Social science club organized the documentary “Ente Bapu’ in connection with Gandhi Jayanthi. Children did service by cleaning the school campus. Mathrupooja was conducted on the Mahanavami day. The concept ‘Mathrudevo Bhava’ was highlighted on that occasion. Smt Parvathy Ananthasankaran , executive member of Chimaya mission, Kollam, conducted the poojas and addressed the children & their parents. Almost 120 children took part in the pooja. Teachers , non teaching staff and mission members also took part in it. Teachers and children sang bhajans. 1st Nov 2010 , ie ‘kerala piravi’ was celebrated as Malayalam day. Children sang Nadanpattukal. The Malayalam dept conducted an exhibition where old house hold materials, coins and plants were exhibited. Literary contest for all classes was also conducted on that day. Swami Adyathmanandaji, Acharya, CM, Kozhikode visited the Vidyalaya on 19 Nov 2010. He had a session with class XI & XII. The students interacted with swamiji. He highlighted the importance of values in ones life. Christmas was celebrated by KG section. The teachers and children along with Santa Claus sang songs and Santa Claus distributed sweets. A healthy body consists of a healthy mind. The Physical education imparts the different ways of developing the physique of ones body. Our physical education teacher, Smt Smitha Pappachan put in all her efforts to fulfill this. The sport meet of our Vidyalaya was conducted on 7th Jan. Sri. Kaikara Nizamudeen, President of Hockey Association, kollam and the ex member of the Syndicate, Kerala University declared the sports meet opened. In his inauguration address he insisted on the importance of sports in the school days and the benefit it gives them in the future. The students took part in different events. The house wise march past was conducted and the chief guest took salute. Ramakrishna house bagged first for March past. Abhilash K of Class XII is the Sports champion. Each and every one is gifted with different talents. The Arts fest which was conducted on 10th January gave opportunities for the children to highlight their talents. Children took part in different items in music, dance etc. Archana G R of class VIII is the Arts champion. Athira S Nair of class IX is the overall champion. Other than the Literary contest conducted by the English, Hindi, Malayalam and Sanskrit dept, the social science and Maths dept also conducted Quiz competition. The social science dept conducted the quiz based on ‘Freedom struggle & Independence’ for the IX and X classes. A competition was held for the cover designing of Vidya bharati, the school magazine of TVM & Kollam. Teachers and students took part in it. Anirudh Mohan of class XII , CV kollam received the first prize of RS 1001/- given by the Chinmaya Edn Cultural trust, Tvm. Students of our Vidyalaya participated in Inter school competition for various events in the district level. Ardra V H of class IX secured second prize for Chess championship conducted by YMCA> The chinmaya Yuvakendra of TVM conducted an Inter Chinmaya cricket tournament on 8th Jan 2010 at Central Stadium, TVM. The junior & senior sections from our Vidyalaya participated in the cricket tournament. Our senior section bagged the runner up trophy. Anandhu R C of class XI got the man of the series trophy. We congratulate the students. Bhagawad gita competition was conducted in the Vidyalaya for all classes. Chinmaya Mission Kollam conducted the district level competition of Bhagawad Gita chapter X . Our school was the Venue. 52 students participated in the District level competition. The first prizes for the four categories are as follows Category I Sivapriya UKG I prize Category II Akshay A S IV “ Category III Archana G R VIII “ Category IV Ardra V H IX “ The teaching faculty of our Vidyalaya attends the subject council meet & satsang conducted once in a month at TVM. The departmental meetings and the academic council meetings are also conducted monthly in the vidyalayas. Jyothisree B of class X in the academic year 2009-10 left us on February 2010. A school bell has been donated in memory of her. Smt Saraswathy Amma, grand mother of Jyothisree has sponsored an Endowment in memory of Jyothysree for the student who gets the highest mark in Hindi for class X. The students of class VIII-XII visited places of historical importance and places of scenic beauty. They had a study tour to Padmanabhapuram palace. They also visited Kanyakumari. Academic assessment by the CCMT Education cell, Coimbatore was conducted from 29 November to 2nd December by Dr. Saiprabhavathi. She assessed the teachers and students. She had a meeting with the staff, students & parents. She gave some suggestions which would be followed by us. The whole hearted support of the Management, Parents, teaching & non teaching staff is inevitable. I take this opportunity to thank all of them for helping the functioning of the Vidyalaya in a smooth manner.
